For those conscientious homeowners wanting a colorful, non-desert-style landscape example to replace a grass lawn, look no further than this gorgeous hilltop garden! Concerned about the increasing cost of water brought on by the ongoing drought conditions in California, these clients wanted to replace their thirsty turf lawn with a water-wise landscape made up of colorful drought tolerant plants and permeable hardscape. At the end of a meandering flagstone path, a simple rustic fountain was placed in a natural stone setting near a bench for the homeowner to sit and enjoy the epic canyon view. We turned what was a thirsty, high-maintenance yard into a natural meadow equally enjoyed by humans, butterflies, and hummingbirds alike.
